Soshigaya is a residential neighborhood in Setagaya Ward to the north of Soshigaya-Okura Station on the Odakyu Line.
The neighborhood is known for the “Ultraman Shopping Street” that extends north from the Station. Along the shopping street are discount supermarkets, 100 yen shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
The Ultraman connection is because the head office of Tsuburaya Productions—the studio that produces Ultraman—was located nearby.
As well as the shopping street, a statue on the north side of the station also commemorates the connection.
The College of Commerce of Nihon University is located an eight minute walk from the North Exit of Soshigaya-Okura Station, so on the mornings of entrance exams and special occasions such as the start of term, the station can get very busy.
