Koganei’s neat suburban gridlines of carefully planned, closely-spaced housing developments surround one of western Tokyo’s largest green spaces–Koganei Park–where it is possible to picnic on overgrown grass under old shade trees. Most of this lush park’s many attractions are free or very inexpensive. The astro-turf sledding hill is a highlight as are the wide, shady cycling trails. Koganei Park is also home to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.
