The Yokohama Port Opening Festival is Yokohama’s largest public event of the year and celebrates when Yokohama Port first opened.

Pro tip: Visit Enoshima and see the fireworks on June 2 with a bus tour from Tokyo.

What happens?

There is a variety of events taking place across the two days — all with the aim of further promoting Yokohama and its culture. As well as being able board ships on the port, you can also watch live performances and eat some good food.

  • On Sunday, an impressive display with 3000 fireworks takes place at 7 p.m.

Tickets: Can I watch the fireworks for free?

It is free to attend this festival and you can see the fireworks from many points in the Minato Mirai and Sakuragicho areas without buying tickets. However, Hammerhead No. 9 Quay, Rinko Park, and a terrace in front of the National Great Hall are reserved for ticket holders only. For front-row views, buy a sponsored seat ticket, which ranges from ¥21,600 to ¥43,300.

How to get there

This festival is taking place at Rinko Park and the general Minato Mirai area. The best way to get here is to take the Minato Mirai Line to Minato Mirai Station and walk up to 5-minutes.
